In this deliverable we discuss which protocols and algorithms should be used for applications in which lightweight cryptography is needed. First, we point out that the most important practical application in this context is RFID. Subsequently, we discuss the question which algorithms are suitable in the context of RFID only. As a part of our discussion we report on the previous activities of ECRYPT in the field of RFID security. These activities have consisted of two deliverables in which lightweight implementations of AES and ECC have been discussed, and of two workshops that we have organized. The findings of these two workshops are summarized in this deliverable. It turns out that today, mostly symmetric cryptographic algorithms can be considered for RFID systems. Consequently, the question arises which type of symmetric primitive should be used: stream ciphers, block ciphers or hash functions. Another ECRYPT activity that is currently work in progress is the eSTREAM project. This project is aimed at finding new stream ciphers (also suitable for lightweight implementations). However, this effort is still work in progress. Therefore the algorithms are still under evaluation and recommendations can not be made at this point. Consequently, the last issue that discuss is whether block ciphers or hash functions are more suitable. We provide evidence that lightweight implementations of the popular hash functions (MD family) cannot compete with lightweight implementations of block ciphers (AES). It turns out that AES is more suitable for lightweight implementations.

ALGOS: the development of a randomized controlled trial testing a case management algorithm designed to reduce suicide risk among suicide attempters

BACKGROUND Suicide attempts (SA) constitute a serious clinical problem. People who attempt suicide are at high risk of further repetition. However, no interventions have been shown to be effective in reducing repetition in this group of patients. METHODS/DESIGN Multicentre randomized controlled trial. We examine the effectiveness of "ALGOS algorithm": an intervention based in a decisional tre...

Category Theory Foundation For Engineering Modelling

Category theory provides a formal foundation for engineering modelling, as well as, mathematics and science. Both structure and behaviour, as they occur in engineering models for manufactured products and biomedicine, can be embedded as axiom sets within a mathematical formalism, called Algos. The Algos language is a two sorted first order Horn clause theory based on topos language construction...

Erythromelalgia: response to serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

Erythromelalgia is a painful disorder of the extremities characterized by redness, swelling, a burning sensation, and an increase in skin temperature exacerbated by exposure to heat. 1 An early description was reported by Mitchell 2 in 1878. He coined the term erythromelalgia to denote the clinical features of redness (erythros), involvement of the extremities (melos), and the symptom of pain (...

A way to understand erythromelalgia.

A painful syndrome characterized by pain, heat and redness of the extremities has received at least two different names: erythromelalgia and erythermalgia. The term 'erythromelalgia', which is derived from the 3 Greek words erythros (red), melon (extremities) and algos (pain) was first proposed by Mitchell in 1878 [15] to indicate red, painful extremities. Mitchell was not entirely certain abou...
